Jamie Olive is my hero.  Last year, when he came to the United States and make a debut in the small, sleepy town in West Virginia, he clearly made an impact and difference in their lives.

This year, he might have taken on more than he could chew by tackling the enormous Los Angeles Community.  By the end of the last show, though, he gained the support of the new supertindent of the LA School system.

He’s got the right ideas though.  He wears his heart on his sleeve and is aiming to put things into good perspective with good eats, starting in the schools.

I thank him for his perseverance in keeping on the school systems.  I look forward to see the long range effects of his efforts.

What’s next for this hero?  Can’t wait to see what he’s got up his sleeve for the next leg of his crusade!

One of the social sites that I go to has some lounges. They are pretty fun to get lost in, chat a bit, and listen to tunes from all eras (depending on the lounge that you are lounging around in).

There is one that I have been checking out lately and the owner has offered to train me on how to be a DJ. Can’t really pass up the opportunity to learn—we’ll know soon how much more involved it can be soon enough. I have to contact her on the Yahoo Messenger later today.

Is anyone out there an Internet DJ? Do you enjoy it? Do you have any tips or suggestions???

Look forward to hearing what folks have to say…..

It is certainly something different, and a whole new world to explore. Who knows where it will lead to—or, not! lol… It will be fun to explore, nontheless!

I, honestly, cannot remember if this was also circulated around last year or not in our emails as well; whatever the case though, it certainly would bear repeating….enjoy!!

A Different Christmas Poem
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.

My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn’t loud, and it wasn’t too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn’t quite know,

then thesure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

‘What are you doing?’ I asked without fear,
‘Come in this moment, it’s freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!’

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire’s light,
Then he sighed and he said ‘Its really all right,

I’m out here by choice. I’m here every night.’

‘It’s my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,

I’m proud to stand here like my fathers before me.

My Gramps died at ‘ Pearl on a day in December,’
He sighed, ‘That’s a Christmas ‘Gram always remembers.’

My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ‘ Nam ‘,
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
< /S PAN>

I’ve not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he’s sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue… an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..

Who sta! nd at th e front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.’
‘So go back inside,’ he said, ‘harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I’ll be all right.’

‘But isn’t there something I can do, at the least,
‘Give you money,’ I asked, ‘or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you’ve done,
For being away from your wife and your son.’

In his eyes welled a tear that held no regret,
‘Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.’

——————————————————————-

PLEASE, Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities.  Let’s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

OMG….

just perusing Slate.com and came across a “recycled article” that is republished to make it a new article on Monday, December 17th called, “How to be a shopping-mall Santa”, which is indeed a very thorough article about Shopping Mall Santas.

It brought a smile to my face and a rush of memories as I had worked for one of the organizer companies of these Shopping Mall Santas one year.  It was a great time of coordinating with the malls all the Santas we needed to fill for their Santa photo opps within each of the malls.  Not only were we coordinating schedules for those Santas in Austin, but we were also involved in coordinating schedules for those Santas in many of the other malls in Houston, San Antonio and other metropolitan cities throughout Texas.

What an interesting year that was to be a behind the scenes coordinating elf to make sure that all the malls were fully staffed with the Santas – especially, when receiving the compliments from all the long time veteran Santas that were putting smiles on childrens faces.  After all, besides being the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas is also about bringing a special joy and memories to all the children.

I am looking forward to going to the mall this year when I do get a chance — not really to do Christmas shopping as I have completed my Christmas shopping for this year — but to observe from a vantage point all the children’s faces light up when they see Santa Claus at the shopping mall to hear what they want for Christmas, as well as to get their photos taken with Santa.  My daughter is too old now to have her photo taken with Santa; however, I am hoping to get a picture of my 5 mo old granddaughter with Santa Claus.  I can’t wait!!

Hoping that visions of Santas in Shopping Malls may also bring rushes of fond memories of your childhood, or as a parent of young children this year!

This was forwarded once again to me in an email, but I thought I would share it with my readers of my blogsite.  You have to see it to believe it because it is sooo beautifully well done.

 www.suoitumedia3.net/Video/thousandhandguanyin.wmv

There is an awesome dance, called the Thousand-Hand Guanyin, that is making the rounds across the net and traveling around the countries. Considering the tight coordination required, their accomplishment is nothing short of amazing, even if they were not all deaf.

Yes, you read correctly.

All 21 of the dancers are completely deaf. Relying only on signals from trainers at the four corners of the stage, these extraordinary dancers deliver a visual spectacle that is at once intricate and stirring. Its first major international debut was in Athens…at the closing ceremonies for the 2004 Paralympics. But it had long been in the repertoire of the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe and had traveled to more than 40 countries.

Its lead dancer is 29 year old Tai Lihua, who has a BA from the Hubei Fine Arts Institute.

The video was recorded in Beijing during the Spring Festival celebrations in 2005.

Enjoy!! 😀

How many ways can you say “Happy Birthday” to an eight year old who is also a cancer patient???

Received this in the email today.  It has a direct link, too, to his site encouraging everyone to massively cooperate and send this young guy a means to get his wish for breaking the Guiness World Records for the most cards received.

The email:

Shane Bernier is a cancer patient at the Children’s Hospital of eastern Ontario.

He turns eight on May 30. His dream is to set a record for the most birthday cards ever received.

It will be a wonderful sign of support from the EMS community to help him reach his goal, so please consider sending him a birthday greeting.

His address is:

Shane Bernier
Box 484
Lancaster

So Italian sounding is the name “paparazzi” that one presumes that it is all good, so associated with the good eats that the Italians have — ie, “Pizza, pizza!!” — however, a paparazzi can never really be good news.  While keeping some celebrities in line with the social graces by exposing their bad behaviors to the public, the barrage of “in your face” photographers expose what is the otherwise surreal life that we see of the celebrities on the screen, plays, political stances, etc., with the realness of who and what they truly represent.

It is thought that Princess Di was victimized by the paparrazi who chased her in the car driven by her driver on that fateful evening.  This shocked the world and the reality of the damages that the paparrazi could do suddenly became front and center.

I love to take photographs of people, but I respect their boundaries for privacy and the right to live a life without being felt like a fish in a fishbowl.  Their job is for entertaining oftentimes, and yet their reward is constant view into their lives, such as in the movie “The Truman Show” where I am sure they often wonder where their job and personal lives are separated and how they can bring up their own children and have family lives of their own without the parrazi always breathing down their necks, although, I suppose they are getting a litte bit better about that at time until a greedy photographer gets obsessed in getting that one photograph that will make them boo-koos of money.  At that point, what really truly separates them from being categorized as stalkers?  Don’t the celebrities deserve to live lives stalker free too???

In a recent incident in Prague, it was said that:

“On Friday, their presence as they were leaving their son Maddox’s (5) kindergarten in Prague, caused quite a stir, witnesses said.

Angelina Jolie is making the movie Wanted in Prague until the end of May. It is a film adaptation of the eponymous graphic novel in which she stars alongside James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman.

On Tuesday evening, their presence in a restaurant in the old city also caused a fight among the paparazzi from France, Germany, the U.S. and England, which almost escalated to violence.”

It was not indicated what “violence” was almost had, however, the paparazzi should never get to the point of any degree of violence.  If they do, they are truly no better than any stalker threatening their safety and right to some degree of privacy in their lives.

The Social Security Administration has published their top 10 list (one for males and one for females) just in time for Mother’s Day:

MALES:  Jacob, Michael, Joshua, Ethan, Matthew, Daniel, Christopher, Andrew, Anthony and, finally, William!

FEMALES:  Emily, Emma, Madison, Isabella, Ava, Abigal, Olivia, Hannah, Sophia, and, finally, Samantha.

I am not often interested in looking at theses lists other than in pure fun; however, since my daughter and her significant love are having their first baby (and, my first Grandbaby girl) in early July, it brings an added interest this year.  The name they have picked out already for their baby girl isn’t on any of those lists (at least, so far).

You can go to the site and check your own birth year as well.  It can be pretty interesting to see if your own name even made the top 20 back then!! lol….

LOL…

Well, it isn’t exactly “where” that you should be asking, but “who” is Stanley Wood “Pack” Landfair?  He is a former catcher for University of Texas (majoring in English and Creative Writing) who has been on a trek to see the world (within the boundaries of the 48 states) in a year’s time to help him launch his writing career ahead of his life path he had chosen for himself due to a spinal injury.  The injury kept him from pursuing his dream of first becoming a Navy Seal then a writer; but, when the injury occurred, he turned his sights directly upon becoming a writer.

Launched upon a motorcycle with a backpack, he is no different than many folks do after they have graduated in order to find themselves and know what directions they want to head into their lives.  A prime example of this was depicted in the offbeat but famed movie called The Motorcycle Diaries where two friends take off on motorcycles to take a tour around South America, where the phrase became important, “Let the World Change You … and You can Change the World!”

Becoming more like a “Where’s Waldo” type of figure of mystique, he has traveled in many states already and is still on his journey (just check here to see where he is heading to next).  To find out more about his journey that he has taken, be sure to read his journal entries that he is posting on his website (www.woodrowlandfair.com).  The journal entries are definitely worth the while to read.

It certainly makes one envious in wanting to go off and explore as well.  There is much to our own lands to see — with differing peoples, cultures, customs, etc.  I love taking daytrips and exploring; wish that would also pay the bills!!!  In the meantime, we can all live vicariously through him and his travels — for now!! 😀

you know the excitement that can be had like Terri Horton had when she possibly found a Jackson Pollock masterpiece, as shared in 60 Minutes’ posting entitled, “A Thrift-Shop Jackson Pollock Masterpiece?  Ex-Trucker Claims She Scored a Multimillion-Dollar Painting for $5”.

CBS 60 Minutes did an excerpt on this story on tonight’s 60 Minutes show entitled “The $50Million Mystery”.  It is truly an amazing story and poses the question, “What if she did find that greatest find in the world of thrift-store hunting???”  A fingerprint expert on 60 Minutes confirms that he does indeed think it is by comparison of fingerprints on the back of Terri’s canvas to on that is in the museum on an old can of blue paint to one that is found on another known Pollock painting!!

After all, we know that old adage of “What is one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” (origin unknown).  Often times, the staff at thrift stores have no idea of whether they are looking at an original or replication of a work of art.  They often treat it as if it were replication and put it on the floor with a ridiculously low price.  Sometimes, I feel, it may be somewhat intentional to draw those customers in who are looking for that unique treasure that may put their children through college and then some in order to keep the other things moving in their stores; if so, it is a great marketing gimmick as much of what they do receive in the thrift stores are not so remarkable treasures in most people’s eyes, but that $2 bear might be a child’s prize possession for years to come; and, that joy being spread is much of what the mission of the thrift stores is all about.

Will it create droves to the Thrift Stores?  Probably not.  Not many people think that they will be the one to find that treasure in what can be like finding a needle in a haystack.  However, lucky is the person who can!! 😀

See the CBS 60 Minutes Video on this Thrift Shop Find, here!

For fun, create your own Jackson Pollock masterpiece here!

The first Day of Prayer was declared by

the Continental Congress in 1775.

“I therefore beg leave to move That henceforth prayers, imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business; and that one or more clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.”

It is all over the news that the Miss America, Lauren Nelson, was all talk and vying more for a PR stunt rather than have the intent to testify to the courts in Suffolk County, New York, about the child predators they caught with regard to them thinking that they were going to come to a home where they intended to have sex with a 14yo, posed by her pictures.

America’s Most Wanted’s producers were quick today to respond and put a spin on the rumors flying by stating:

“Despite the information to the contrary that appears in an article in Newsday, according to the Miss America Organization neither Lauren Nelson nor her representatives have told the Suffolk County District Attorney — or anyone else — that she would refuse to testify in any of the cases in which she participated. We don’t know why the D.A. would make the comments attributed to him without knowing all of the facts.

“It is important to note that the Suffolk County Police were in charge of every aspect of the investigation that was featured in our broadcast. The accused predators who were arrested during the taping of this episode of America’s Most Wanted were taken into custody at the discretion of the Suffolk County Computer Crimes Unit.

“We believe that our work speaks for itself, and we believe in letting the legal system take its course.”

Lauren Nelson has also posted a video blog stating about her involvement with the sting and how comfortable she was with the process and speaking with the perpetrators. I am not sure that “comfortable” should have been expressed; after all, isn’t that what Patty Hearst said of her captors when she was allegedly kidnapped??? Just the first thought that sprang in my mind as she was talking and watching her body language and always keep looking down as if she weren’t totally telling the truth or, perhaps, a staged response. Check it out and let me know what you think??

I am not sure who to believe at this point. America’s Most Wanted certainly has a reputation to uphold and they don’t want to be going down in history as staging a sting that was a farce to improve the status of this new Miss America, which is why I am not surprised that they so very quickly posted a statement on their website.

I had, too, posted a posting after watching the sting that aired last Saturday, entitled “America’s Most Wanted Safety Center” under the “Internet” tab on this blog site. I felt that she was being sincere then; I just hope that she wasn’t planting seeds for a PR ploy and wasn’t honest in her campaign. I guess we will soon see how true to her word this Miss America is when she proves the “proof in the puddin'” by either testifying – or, not.

In the meantime, I might be heading back to the blog posting, entitled, “Person of the Week: Lauren Nelson” and see if the blogger has a different opinion of her now that this conflict rumor has started flying!!

Question: If she doesn’t testify, will this put a poor limelight upon her alone or the America’s Most Wanted as well??? Just curious as to what you might think…

Question: Do you think that the convictions of these predators can be successful – even if she doesn’t testify???

E.F. Hutton (1875-1962)

No, I am no EF Hutton, but wouldn’t it be nice???  lol…

At least, it would be nice if the phrase that was coined through their commercials (“When EF Hutton talks, people listen!) also applied to me!!!

I had a friend explore who I am over the internet through all of my blogs and said that, “You are famous!”  I just laughed and said, if I were famous, people would stop and listen to me just at the mention of my name.  That doesn’t happen.   People know me only through my “name” of txbluebonnet that I penned for my blogging endeavors, unless they have met me in person.

The day that someone mentions that, “Txbluebonnet said….”, and they stop to listen, then (perhaps) I might consider myself famous; especially, if what they said was all good!!!  I certainly wouldn’t want to take the PR beating that they did during their demise as a focal point on Wall Street.

In the meantime, I continue to blog, often times feeling like the “Who” in “Whoville” waiting for “Horton” to hear me and pass my messages right on along.   May your day be blessed in some way today.
