MARCH 26, 2007 – MONDAY
On Friday, I was referred to a surgeon with a group of Surgeons. I called this morning (Monday) to see about seeing the recommended general surgeon as a follow up and find out more about the surgery that seems necessary. The cost of the appointment just for the consultation would run me from $100-$250. When I mentioned that I didn’t have insurance, the receptionist/appointment taker had a sour sound in her voice.
Then when I mentioned that Seton had contacted a caseworker to contact me this week for qualifying for the MAP program, she sounded with resounding snobbery. “None of our doctors go to Breckenridge!” Augghghghgh!! I am not real keen about going to Breckenridge either, but sometimes a gal has to do what she can to get the healthcare that she deserves. Guess I’ll have to wait for the caseworker to call me this week to find out anything more. Scratch that doctors’ office off of any beginnings of a list I have at this time in the meantime.
By the way, when I asked her how much the typical charge for the surgeon would be, she stated that it would be excessive unless I am independently wealthy. I asked her again and again, and she finally stated $1500 (Fifteen Hundred Dollars.), but that (of course) would not include the fees for the anesthesia, operating room, and hospital fees, etc.
She had prejudged me. Not that I am independently wealthy, but if they would consider some payment options, I might be able to afford it. My car purchase years ago was for more than that….and my student loans are for much more than that (by about 20 times).
Next up???
