Back, a couple of decades ago, computers were just becoming prevalent among businesses needing to find faster ways of communicating and writing, as well as preserving, documents and records. In 1984, my Dad had already been building his own computers for quite some time (albeit not quite the small frames that we are used to). He had been building things from HeathKits for a much longer time. In fact, I think the first tv set we had was built from a HeathKit in the early 1960s. Apparently, with a click on the internet, I have now discovered that the HeathKit tradition is a thing of the past that ended in the early 1990′s. Isn’t the power of the internet phenomenal??
Just before 1984, the now famed Michael Dell, began selling IBM clone computers he built out of his car while attending the University of Texas. In 1984, at the age of 19, he began putting the sale of the computers into action as a business called PC’s Limited, which would transition to Dell Computer Corporation and later to be known as DELL as we know it today. He has made the computers a household name, while IBM focused more on the business needs. Soon the household name of DELL would also be synonymous with the business world as well as they took over the need of having huge mainframes to cycle the network system.
Eventually, schools across the United States would all have computers to aid the students in learning and it became more of a necessity for each home to have a computer instead of a typewriter to aid the student in his/her learning potential and school work. Teachers increasingly made the quest for knowledge be more challenging since most of the answers could be instantaneously found on the internet through what was touted as the Internet Highway.
Through this page, I am going to take a look at how the internet has played a role in our lives and, quite possibly, how the internet has taken control of our lives.
While the INTERNET may be an electronic wonder,
SOCIETY has been influenced in many, many positive and negative means,
and what a tangled WEB it certainly does weave!!!
Stay tuned…
