33% of all homicides are due to domestic violence. That is a staggering figure that was put out in 2005. This year I have heard of so many homicide cases that were due to domestic violence that I am beginning to wonder if the statistic might be higher than that.
Below I am going to put down some references to specific cases that I am hearing about. Today, I am starting with the story about the 19 yo Texas A&M student who was burned on a grill after her 27 yo boyfriend strangled and dismembered her. I will probably rearrange the list in a chronology as I am gathering up the cases that have happend this year.
Round Rock Woman’s Friend Killed by Estranged Husband – 020907; Estranged Husband of RR Woman is Found Guilty – 042707
Houston Texas A&M Student 032707 – Memorial Services 040707
35 yo woman (waiting for positive identification matched with her children)
Woman shot by her boyfriend – 040307, Atlanta, GA
DV Related Shootings – 10/12/07, Arlington, TX
If you have other cases to add to the list, please let me know.

Do you have a lot of space for your list? Estimates I’ve heard say that about four people per day are killed in the US as a result of domestic violence. I have been trying to record some of their stories on my blog, but it is difficult to keep up with the pace of these senseless killings. I currently have a list of over 50 more 2007 deaths that I will write up and post as soon as I have time. And those are just the ones I know about…
I know, I know. The list is incredible actually. You are soooo very right. Please let me know when you post your list, I’ll tie it to mine. Between the two of us, perhaps, it will make an impact to someone and may save another life by the awareness.
The rates of domestic violence sadden and frighten me. I thank my stars I was able to get out of the relationship I was in. It was during high school and I believe if his family hadn’t moved, he would have ended up killing me.
Katm: You are so right. The rates of DV are indeed staggering. You are fortunate that you did get out of that relationship, even it were because his family moved. As an outreach to other teens, the Teen Dating Abuse Helpline was established this year in an effort to reach other teens and advise them on some ways that they can get out of some volatile dating violence situations.
